$138 million will be spent on the construction of the second unit of the Kambar-Ata HPP-2. This was announced at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Fuel and Energy and Subsoil Use by First Deputy Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic Emilbek Ysmanov.

According to him, $110 million is credit funds, $28 million is from the country’s internal budget.

“We plan to finish the construction work in 2029,” the official promised.

It should be recalled that the agreement on granting an investment loan of $110 million from the funds of the Eurasian Stabilization and Development Fund, whose funds are managed by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), to finance the project “Commissioning of the second hydroelectric unit of the Kambar-Ata HPP-2” entered into force in 2019.

According to Deputy Minister of Energy Taalaibek Baigaziev, the estimated cost of the project for the reconstruction of the node at the Kambar-Ata HPP-2 is 1.5 billion soms.

The station was put into operation in 2010. Its capacity is 120 megawatts, but in fact only 90 MW is produced. The rest, in fact, are “locked up” due to the peculiarities of the station’s operation. Officials want to release them with the participation of the private company MBT Stroy.
