The reconstruction of the Kairakkum Dam is promised to be completed in September

The complete modernization and technical re-equipment of the Kairakkum Dam will be completed in September 2025. This became known during the visit of the Minister of Energy of Tajikistan Daler Juma to the facility.

It is reported that 5 power units of the power plant have been repaired to date, repair work continues on the last unit according to plan.

As a result of the full implementation of the modernization project, the production capacity of the Kairakkum Dam will increase from 126 MW to 174 MW. This is equivalent to an increase in power by 48 MW compared to previous figures.

The implementation of this project will improve the efficiency of the power plant and further improve the reliability of power supply in the northern regions of the country.

Kairakkum Dam is considered one of the most important energy facilities in the country and consists of 6 hydroelectric units.

The hydroelectric power plant was commissioned in 1956, back in Soviet times.

Reconstruction work began in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented their timely completion.

The renovation took a long time, and in 5 years the hydroelectric units No. 4, 5 and 6 were completely modernized. The capacity of each of them increased from 19 to 29 MW.

This facility is considered one of the most important sources of electricity generation in Tajikistan after Nurek, Rogun and Sarband Dams. The power plant is connected to the unified energy system of northern Tajikistan, energy is supplied to cities and districts of the Sughd region.
