Kyrgyzstan presented to ADB the progress of work on the Kambar-Ata HPP-1
Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliyev held a meeting with the new Director General of the Central and West Asia Department of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Leia Gutierrez. The meeting took place in connection with the recent appointment of Gutierrez to this position, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reports.
The parties focused on key infrastructure projects in the region. In particular, the construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 and the Barskoon–Bedel highway were discussed. The topic of programs to provide the population with affordable mortgage housing was also touched upon. The Kyrgyz side confirmed its interest in attracting investments from the bank to implement these large-scale initiatives.
Special attention was paid to the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 project. The updating of the feasibility study on this issue has already been completed, a draft environmental and social impact assessment report is being prepared, and work is underway on an intergovernmental agreement.
Leia Gutierrez, for her part, recalled ADB’s 30-year partnership with Kyrgyzstan, within the framework of which a significant amount of projects in various fields were implemented. At the end of the meeting, the hope was expressed that the upcoming visit of ADB President Masato Kando to Kyrgyzstan in November would give a new impetus to the development of bilateral cooperation.
