Sinohydro to Modernize Hydropower Plants in Uzbekistan

Uzbekhydroenergo, Uzbekistan’s state hydropower company, has signed strategic cooperation agreements with the Chinese engineering firm Sinohydro Co., Ltd. for the modernization of the country’s hydropower facilities. Sinohydro was selected as the contractor following an open tender process where it met all required technical criteria and quality standards.
The agreements cover the modernization of the Shakhrikhan cascade of hydropower plants in the Andijan region, specifically the HPP–5A and HPP–6A stations. The project will be executed on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) turnkey basis, with Sinohydro managing the full cycle of work from design and construction to equipment supply and final commissioning of the facilities.
The comprehensive reconstruction aims to significantly increase the plants’ production capacity and overall operational efficiency. The scope of work includes updating control systems and implementing modern technologies to ensure the stable, long–term operation of the power facilities.
As a result of the project, the total capacity of the Shakhrikhan cascade hydropower plants is projected to increase from 7.6 MW to 16.4 MW. This upgraded capacity is expected to generate an additional 33 million kWh of electricity annually.
