Adani Group to Enter Uzbekistan Hydropower and Pumped Storage Market

Adani Group, a major Indian conglomerate and one of Asia’s largest infrastructure players, plans to enter the hydropower market of Uzbekistan. Gautam Adani, the corporation’s founder, expressed interest in investment and construction projects – including the development of new hydroelectric power plants and pumped storage facilities – during a meeting with an Uzbek delegation in Ahmedabad.

Discussions involved Laziz Kudratov, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade, focusing on the implementation of advanced engineering solutions and direct financing for energy infrastructure. The Central Asian republic is actively seeking international capital to expand its generating capacity and modernize its water management systems.

Tashkent is systematically opening the industry to external investors, according to Azimjon Akhmadjanov, the First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Uzbekgidroenergo. The dialogue with the Indian conglomerate initiates substantive discussions regarding technology transfer and the allocation of funds for specific projects situated on the rivers of Uzbekistan.

Following the consultations in Ahmedabad, representatives from the corporation and the relevant Uzbek ministry agreed to establish operational mechanisms for structuring future deals. Technical and financial experts from both sides are scheduled to begin preparing project documentation for the initial initiatives in the Uzbek hydropower industry.
