Kazakhstan to Modernize Water Infrastructure with French Technology

The Kazakhstan Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has reached an agreement with the French company CarpiTech Hydroplus for the phased implementation of European technologies at domestic hydraulic facilities. Vice-Minister Zhandos Salimov signed the document, which transitions the framework agreements established in June into practical engineering and construction operations.

Under the initial phase of the agreement, French specialists will conduct a technical documentation audit of facilities selected by the ministry. The parties will subsequently identify specific locations for technology testing – including at least two dams and one irrigation canal – to serve as pilot sites. In conjunction with these efforts, a series of training seminars will be held in Kazakhstan to prepare local engineers for the operation of new equipment.

The selected facilities are scheduled to receive upgrades meeting modern waterproofing and management standards. Planned works include the installation of geomembrane linings on canals to prevent water loss, the automation of water hubs, and the deployment of digital monitoring systems. Investors will develop technical solutions and specific modernization timelines for each pilot site. Following successful trials, these methods are expected to be implemented at other hydraulic structures throughout the republic.

The ministry’s strategy emphasizes the localization of production alongside engineering developments. CarpiTech Hydroplus maintains an existing manufacturing base in the Zhambyl region, which is expected to reduce logistical costs and accelerate the transition from technical analysis to active construction work on the dams.
