Kyrgyzstan to Launch 7.8 MW Jyrgalan Hydropower Plant for Resort Cluster

The Jyrgalan small hydropower plant, with an installed capacity of 7.8 MW, is preparing for launch in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. The facility will generate electricity specifically to meet the energy requirements of the Ala-Too Resort cluster. This commissioning represents one of the first practical results of the state-run Green Energy Fund.

The development of small hydropower, alongside wind and solar projects, is now a priority for the national energy sector. The demand for new generating capacity is driven by macroeconomic factors, with at least 100 industrial objects entering operation in the country each year. These facilities require a consistent and expanded supply of electricity to sustain industrial growth.

Establishing local generation on the Jyrgalan River reduces the load on the main transmission networks and ensures a stable energy supply for recreation zones. The Issyk-Kul resort infrastructure typically faces seasonal consumption peaks, and the new station will allow the cluster to operate autonomously. Such localized energy solutions – essential for modern infrastructure – provide the necessary reliability to manage regional demand fluctuations effectively.
