Repair did not help: the dam in Aktobe region broke again

In the Aktobe region of Kazakhstan, the Kosem dam broke for the second time in six months. The situation was commented on in the relevant department, the website of the CTC TV channel reports.

The consequences of the dam breakthrough were filmed by residents of the Alginsky district, where the dam is located. They claim that the streams of water washed away the road, and a large number of fish also died.

“It broke through. There was an embankment, it broke through. All the fish are lying around. Small fry, large ones have already been collected everywhere. Why are they treated this way? They don’t know how to build a dam, you don’t have to give them,” said the author of the video.

As the TV channel notes, in the spring the villagers have already faced a similar situation. The dam, which was repaired last year, having spent 250 million tenge on it, could not withstand floods.

People claim that this time the dam burst because of the rains. Now the same contractor that carried out the repair is restoring the facility under warranty.

Officials assured journalists that in fact everything is not as scary as it looks on the video.

“The last rains were, the dirt road was washed away. This is a temporary road. They made it for themselves to travel. There is less water now. Because of this, as the frosts have gone, fish are dying because of this,” said Bekbolat Nurashev, head of the Department of Natural Resources Management of Aktobe region.

It may be recalled that the Shcherbak dam in the Aitekebi district was repaired by the same contractor last year. But she also could not withstand the flood in March of this year. Cracks appeared above the airlock, and a gust occurred. Water gushed into the nearest village, more than 900 residents were evacuated. On the fact of the emergency, the prosecutor’s office opened a criminal case under the article “Negligence”. The investigation is still ongoing.
