Kyrgyzstan offers USAID to develop feasibility studies for ten small hydropower plants
The Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic Taalaibek Ibraev held a meeting with the new director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Kyrgyzstan, Sarah Wert, the press service of the department reports.
According to the Ministry of Energy, as part of the dialogue, the Minister congratulated Sarah Werth on her appointment and thanked USAID for the support provided to the country’s energy sector.
Among the implemented projects, deliveries of 128 meters, 104 Internet modems, equipping with lidar equipment for wind measurement, installation of a solar station on the roof of KSTU, creation of the official website of the Ministry of Energy, as well as modernization of the Batken dispatching center of power grids were noted.
The Minister stressed the importance of continuing cooperation and expressed an initiative to deepen cooperation in the energy sector. Ibrayev invited Vert to get acquainted with the reconstructed hydroelectric units of the Toktogul HPP on the spot, and also offered to develop a feasibility study for the construction of ten small HPPs and organize experience exchange programs for Kyrgyz specialists in Hungary. He also noted the progress in the development of “green energy” in the Kyrgyz Republic and expressed readiness to develop projects in this area.
Sarah Werth, in turn, confirmed her intention to develop an international cooperation strategy, noting the need to receive specific proposals from the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan. She said that after coordinating the initiatives with the USAID leadership, a detailed response will be provided.
