Karakul hydroelectric power station in Kyrgyzstan is planned to be launched by the end of the year

The construction of the Karakul HPP in Kyrgyzstan has reached the final stage. According to the open joint-stock company “Chakan HPP”, which implements the project, the total amount of work performed has reached 65%. The hydroelectric power station is located on the Kara-Suu River near the city of Karakul.

To date, as reported in the press release of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic, the builders have fully completed work on the main facilities. These include the building of the HPP itself with an engine room, where the main and auxiliary equipment has already been installed, as well as the head water intake structure, the discharge channel and the pressure pipeline.

An important stage was the one hundred percent completion of the construction of a substation and an overhead power transmission line with a voltage of 110 kV. It is this infrastructure that will ensure the transmission of generated electricity to the country’s general energy system.

Currently, the facility is working on the installation of relay protection and automation devices, as well as laying cables with a voltage of 10 kV. All construction and installation operations are carried out in strict accordance with the schedule stipulated by the investment agreement.

The design capacity of the new station will be 18 MW. It is expected that the average annual electricity generation will reach 110 million kilowatt-hours. It is planned to complete the construction of the Karakul HPP at the end of this year.
