Uzbekistan Advances $41 Million Sokh Hydroelectric Power Project

Construction of the Sokh Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) is advancing in the Fergana region of Uzbekistan at a cost of $41 million. The facility will have an installed capacity of 15 MW and is projected to generate 50 million kWh of electricity annually. This output will meet approximately 70% of the power demand in the Sokh district while supporting the expansion of local infrastructure and industrial zones.

Current site activities involve extensive concrete work, including the leveling and reinforcement of the riverbed. Contractors are also concreting the slopes of the intake canal. A fleet of 80 units of heavy and specialized machinery is currently engaged in earthmoving and construction–installation processes along the banks of the watercourse.

The development of the Sokh HPP is part of a national program to expand Uzbekistan’s renewable energy sector. Thirteen new hydroelectric power plants are scheduled for commissioning by the end of 2026. These facilities will have a combined installed capacity of 114 MW and a total annual generation exceeding 537 million kWh. Hydropower currently accounts for 10–12% of the national energy balance.
