Five small hydropower plants have been commissioned in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of the year

In Kyrgyzstan, five new small hydroelectric power plants have been integrated into the national energy system since the beginning of 2025. Their total installed capacity was 41.29 MW. This information was announced today by representatives of the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic during the board dedicated to summarizing the activities of the department for nine months.

The commissioning of new facilities has become part of the strategy for the development of renewable energy sources in the country. Among the launched stations are Aksy HPP with a capacity of 4.75 MW, Boz-Uchukskaya HPP – 5.54 MW and Koisuyskaya HPP – 9 MW. Issyk-Ata HPP-2 with an indicator of 4 MW and the largest of them – Kara-Kul HPP, whose capacity reaches 18 MW, were also put into operation.

The plans of the energy department for the last quarter of the year include the continuation of work on increasing generating capacities. It is planned to complete and launch four more small hydroelectric power plants by the end of 2025. Their total capacity, according to preliminary estimates, will add 3.93 MW to the country’s energy system.

In parallel with the commissioning of new facilities, the implementation of projects for the construction and modernization of existing ones continues. “At the same time, construction work is continuing at the Orto-Tokoyskaya HPP, and reconstruction work is underway at the Lebedinovskaya HPP,” the Ministry of Energy explained.
