Ministry of Energy: implementation of Kambar-Ata HPP projects is in full swing
The Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic presented a report on the implementation of the Kylym project, within the framework of which the construction and modernization of the two hydroelectric power stations of Kambar-Ata is underway. The Agency reported on the completion of key preparatory stages for the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP, including determining the type of dam and updating the feasibility study of the project. Also, according to the ministry, the necessary contracts were signed with contractors.

Financial support for these works is provided by the World Bank, which added another 13.6 million to the previously allocated $ 5 million. In the future, for the main construction works at the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP, the bank is considering the possibility of providing financing in the amount of up to $ 1.5 billion. This assistance package is designed for three participating countries of the project – Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, which emphasizes the regional importance of the future hydroelectric power plant.
To date, significant progress has been made in creating infrastructure at the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP site. The access road to the HPP is almost ready – earthworks have been completed by 95%, and concrete laying by 90%. The T-2 transport tunnel is fully completed, its upper part and walls are concreted, and the inner road is completed. Also, the laying of a 110 kV power transmission line and the installation of supports is 95% complete. The construction of the bridge across the Naryn River is actively continuing: drilling and concreting of piles has been completed, about 35% of the entire structure has been erected. In parallel, the construction of a temporary settlement for builders is underway, where the foundations are already ready and most of the metal structures have been installed.
The plans for 2025 include the complete completion of all preparatory facilities at Kambar-Ata-1. This includes the concreting of the remaining sections of roads with a total length of almost 18 kilometers, the completion of the construction of a transport tunnel, a bridge across the Naryn, an auxiliary substation and a temporary settlement for personnel.
At the same time, work is underway at the Kambar-Ata-2 HPP, where the main task is to put the second hydroelectric unit into operation. The project is divided into three main lots. The contracts were signed in the summer and early autumn of this year: the first lot covers the supply of a turbine, generator and station equipment, the second – the construction of an open substation and cable laying, and the third – a pressure pipeline and other hydraulic structures.
