Ortho-Tokoyskaya HPP in Kyrgyzstan is planned to be launched in 2026
The Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibraev inspected the construction of the Orto-Tokoy hydroelectric power station during a working trip to Issyk-Kul region. During the visit, Shakir Saidov, General Director of the contractor company Chakan HPP OJSC, reported on the current status of the project. According to him, the work is carried out in accordance with the approved schedule, and the total volume of construction activities has been completed by 75%. It was noted that the works on the water intake have been fully completed, which allows the accumulation of water without obstacles.

It was also reported about significant progress in laying key communications. The derivation tunnel, the total length of which is 928 meters, has been completed completely. Currently, 624 meters of the tunnel have been concreted, which is one of the most difficult stages of construction.
Following the inspection of the facility, Taalaibek Ibraev instructed the management of JSC Chakan HPP to strengthen control over the progress of work to ensure the commissioning of the hydroelectric power station on time. The design capacity of the Orto-Tokoyskaya HPP will be 21 MW. Completion of construction and commissioning of the facility are scheduled for the first half of 2026.
Recall that for the construction of a hydroelectric power station, the Orto-Tokoy reservoir, located on the boundary of the Issyk-Kul and Naryn regions of Kyrgyzstan, was almost completely drained. According to official information, all the water entering the reservoir from the Kochkor district does not accumulate, but is immediately discharged further along the riverbed. For this purpose, cone valves – special dam mechanisms that regulate the flow – are maintained in a fully open state. This mode of operation will be maintained for the time required to complete the construction work.
