Uzbekistan Commissions 24 MW Hydroelectric Cascade on Oksuv River
A new hydroelectric cascade has been commissioned on the Oksuv River in the Kashkadarya region of Uzbekistan. The facility – which comprises three small hydropower plants with a total capacity of 24 MW – was launched during a regional visit by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The project was implemented by the state-owned company Uzbekgidroenergo as part of a national program to develop renewable energy generation.
The new cascade includes three diversion-type facilities: the 6.2 MW Rabat HPP, the 7.5 MW Chappasuy HPP, and the 10.3 MW Tamshush HPP. These stations are designed to work in coordination, utilizing the sequential elevation drops of the riverbed to generate electricity.
Technical assessments indicate that the complex will achieve an average annual output of 105.1 million kWh. This supply is expected to meet the electricity needs of approximately 44,000 households. The operation of these stations will allow the national energy system to save an estimated 31.5 million cubic meters of natural gas and approximately 50,000 tons of coal every year.
