Updated hydroelectric units have been launched at two hydroelectric power stations in Kyrgyzstan
An important stage of modernization of the national energy system has been completed in Kyrgyzstan. On November 18, 2025, the updated hydroelectric units were launched in the Jalal-Abad region at two key hydroelectric power stations of the country – Toktogul and Uch-Korgon. The official ceremony was attended by the Minister of Energy of the Republic Taalaibek Ibraev.

The fourth hydroelectric unit was put into operation at the Toktogul HPP, the reconstruction of which has been completed in full. This launch marked the end of a multi-year project to completely upgrade the station. As a result of the modernization of all four units, which was carried out in stages, the total capacity of the HPP increased by 240 MW – from 1200 to 1440 MW. Each of the updated units added 60 MW to the total output.
At the same time, the second modernized hydroelectric unit was launched at the Uch-Korgon HPP. The work carried out made it possible to increase its capacity by 9 MW. A similar upgrade of the first unit of the station was completed in 2024. The reconstruction program of the Uch-Korgon HPP will continue – in 2026 it is planned to upgrade the two remaining hydroelectric units. After completion of all works, the total capacity of the station will increase from 180 MW to the design 198 MW.
The event dedicated to the launch of the facilities was also attended by the authorized representative of the President in the Jalal-Abad region Tilek Tekebayev, the general director of JSC “Electric Stations” Alpbek Sadyrov and the head of the reconstruction project of the Toktogul HPP Sergey Sakhovsky.
