Intec will build 20 small hydropower plants in Kyrgyzstan in the next seven years

The private company Intec continues to expand its presence in the hydropower market of Kyrgyzstan, announcing the launch of the fourth major project. After the successful completion of three previous initiatives, including work in the Aksy district of Jalal-Abad region, the developer is moving on to the construction of a new small hydroelectric power station in Keminsky district. The commercial director of the organization, Medet Toktaliev, in an interview with the Evening Bishkek newspaper, shared the details of the upcoming construction of a hydroelectric power station and strategic plans for the development of renewable energy sources in the republic.

Intec’s activities were initially focused on the development of the small hydrogenation segment. The company has gone from the realization of small objects to the performance of full–cycle works – from design to commissioning. The company already has two turnkey stations on its account, and one partially implemented in the village of Karagamysh, where specialists have completed the installation of a pressure pipeline and monolithic works. The new project in Keminsky district will be the next step in scaling up the business: the preparatory stage has already been completed, and the builders are awaiting the final approval of the documentation developed by foreign engineers.

The future HPP is a large-scale hydraulic engineering structure, including a water intake unit, a pressure channel with a length of more than three kilometers and a station building with two turbo generators. The total capacity of the power facility will be 7.5 megawatts. The implementation of the project, whose budget exceeds $ 10 million, is carried out exclusively at the expense of private investments without attracting public funds. According to the plans of the developer, the construction of the station will take about two years.

The company emphasizes that the technical equipment of the new HPP will meet modern standards. The project involves the use of equipment of European, in particular Czech, production, which will be integrated into a single system with reliable substations of the Chinese model. Particular attention is paid to process automation: most operations will be controlled remotely, which will minimize the human factor and increase the stability of power supply. The substation is designed for a voltage of 35 kilowatts.

Intec’s strategic vision goes beyond current construction. In parallel with the work in Kemin, specialists are conducting hydrological studies of rivers in the Issyk-Kul region, assessing the potential for creating medium-power stations from 20 megawatts. In addition, the company is considering diversifying its portfolio by entering the solar energy market, planning to launch a pilot SES. In the long term – within five to seven years – the developer intends to build about twenty small hydropower plants across the country and implement an ambitious 100 megawatt plant project.

The company’s management notes that the payback period of such projects is on average eight years. Intec’s business model often involves the construction and launch of facilities with their subsequent transfer to investors.
