Sinohydro Awarded Contract to Upgrade Uzbekistan Hydropower Cascade

Uzbekhydroenergo, Uzbekistan’s state hydropower company, has signed strategic cooperation agreements with the Chinese engineering firm Sinohydro Co., Ltd. for the modernization of hydropower facilities in the country. Sinohydro was selected as the contractor following an open tender process, chosen for its experience and for meeting all technical and quality standards for the project.
The agreement covers the comprehensive reconstruction of the Shakhrikhan cascade of hydropower plants in the Andijan region, specifically stations HPP-5A and HPP-6A. The project will be carried out under an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract–a turnkey arrangement where Sinohydro will manage all phases from design and construction to equipment supply and commissioning.
The modernization is expected to significantly increase the plants’ production capacity and overall operational efficiency. The scope of work includes updating control systems and implementing modern technologies designed to ensure the stable operation of the energy facilities.
Upon completion, the total capacity of the Shakhrikhan cascade is projected to increase from 7.6 MW to 16.4 MW. This upgrade is expected to generate an additional 33 million kWh of electricity per year.
