China Huadian to Build 51.4 MW Hydropower Capacity in East Kazakhstan

China Huadian Corporation is set to enter the East Kazakhstan hydropower market to develop two new hydroelectric power plants with a combined capacity of 51.4 MW. The project development follows negotiations held during a recent visit to China by a regional delegation led by Governor Ermek Kosherbayev.

The generating facilities will be located in the mountainous districts of the region – Katon-Karagay and Altay. The geographical and hydrological profile of these areas is considered optimal for small-scale and medium-scale hydropower development. The projects will incorporate the engineering expertise of China Huadian Corporation, a Fortune Global 500 company with significant assets in coal, gas, and hydroelectric power generation.

Evaluation of potential construction sites is scheduled to begin in the near future. A delegation of engineers and managers from China Huadian Corporation is expected to arrive in East Kazakhstan next month to conduct field research and finalize the technical and economic justification for the projects.
