Kyrgyzstan Launches Tender for 13.5 MW Dangi Small Hydropower Project
The Kyrgyz generating company Chakan HPP has launched a tender for the construction of the Dangi small hydropower plant in the Osh Region. The 13.5-megawatt facility will be developed through a public–private partnership framework. OJSC Satellite-2005 initiated the project, and potential investors have one month from the announcement date to submit their applications.
Located in the Kara-Suu district within the Datka rural area, the plant is intended to alleviate energy shortages in southern Kyrgyzstan by providing stable local generation. Chakan HPP and the national Center for Public–Private Partnership will supervise the selection process.
Development of the Dangi site has been under discussion for several years. Five years ago, representatives from the Russian–Kyrgyz Development Fund inspected the area. While the government previously considered combining the hydropower project with efforts to improve drinking water supplies for the city of Osh, the water supply initiative was later established as a separate project. Construction of a dedicated dam and water pipelines for the city began on the river earlier this year.
The Dangi project is part of a broader Ministry of Energy initiative to expand distributed generation across Kyrgyzstan. The ministry aims to commission thirteen small hydropower plants with a combined capacity exceeding 81 megawatts by the end of 2026. These facilities are expected to contribute approximately 348 million kilowatt-hours to the national grid annually. In the Osh Region, two other projects – the 5.3-megawatt Konduk and the 4.4-megawatt Alai Hydro plants – are also being prepared for launch.
