The hydroelectric unit No. 1 of the Toktogul HPP is put into operation

After the successful reconstruction of the hydroelectric unit No. 1 of the Toktogul HPP, it was put into operation, receiving an additional capacity of 60 MW. The launch ceremony was attended by the Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic Taalaibek Ibraev, the press service of the department reports.

Work on the reconstruction of hydroelectric unit No. 1 began in March 2024. The project of reconstruction and renovation, after which the capacity of the unit increased by 60 MW, was carried out by GE Hydro.

Toktogul HPP is the largest hydroelectric power station on the Naryn River, located in the city of Kara-Kul, Jalal-Abad region. The volume of the reservoir is 19.5 billion cubic meters. m. Before the reconstruction, its capacity was 1,200 MW (four units with a capacity of 300 MW). Then two hydroelectric units of the station were upgraded, after which 120 MW was added to the total capacity of the HPP. The rehabilitation of GA-1 has added another 60 MW. According to the plan, the reconstruction of the fourth HA will begin in 2025, after which the service life of the HPP will last for another 25-30 years.

It should be noted that the rehabilitation project of the Toktogul HPP is carried out at the expense of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which provided $110 million, and the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD), which allocated $100 million.
