The number of hydropower plants in Uzbekistan has doubled in seven years
The number of hydroelectric power stations (HPPs) in Uzbekistan has grown from 36 to 77 in seven years, said Suraye Pulatova, adviser to the chairman of Uzbekhydroenergo JSC. Their total capacity increased from 1.8 thousand to 2.2 thousand MW.
She added that at the beginning of this year, 13 similar stations have been modernized in the republic.
HPPs generate an average of 20 million kWh of electricity every day, which is 9-11% of the total daily electricity demand of the republic.
From January 1 to January 9, 8.2 billion kWh of electricity was produced. The indicator increased by 20% compared to the same period in 2024.
It should be recalled that as part of the implementation of the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy, it is planned to build and commission hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 3.3 GW in Uzbekistan.
