Kazakhstan has agreed to purchase electricity from Tajikistan

The resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated April 26, 2025 on signing an Agreement with the Government of Tajikistan on cooperation in the field of electric power industry was adopted, reports Zakon.kz .

The agreement is aimed at promoting projects that can contribute to achieving goals and priorities, as well as fulfilling the obligations of the parties in the field of energy security, transition to environmentally friendly technologies and emission reduction.

The document provides that all available measures will be taken to organize hourly electricity metering at the boundary of Tajikistan with the power systems of Central Asia and at the boundary of Kazakhstan with the power systems of Central Asia.

The Tajik side will ensure the transmission of telemetry information via interstate power transmission lines connecting the power systems of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan to the system operator of the Republic of Kazakhstan represented by Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company JSC (KEGOC JSC).

It is also said that the supply of planned electric energy from Tajikistan to Kazakhstan is carried out at the boundary of the division of the balance ownership of the networks of the power system of Kazakhstan with the power systems of Central Asian countries via interstate transmission lines specified in the purchase agreement for the purchase of planned electric energy transferred from Tajikistan to Kazakhstan.

In particular, it is planned to supply planned electric energy from JSC Rogun HPP, which will be carried out exclusively during the hours of planned shortage in the North-South zone of the Unified Electric Power System of Kazakhstan.

The term of the agreement is 20 years from the date of entry into force of the Agreement with the possibility of extension for 10 years. The cost of the planned electric energy will be $ 0.034 per 1 kWh (including VAT paid at a zero 0% rate) to the amount of volumes in accordance with the approved daily schedules for the supply of electric energy.

The resolution is put into effect from the date of its signing.
