The rivers of Kyrgyzstan will be evaluated to optimize the modes of operation of HPPs
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the state order for the project “Assessment of water and energy resources of unexplored river basins of the Kyrgyz Republic in the context of climate change”.
As stated in the order of the Cabinet of Ministers dated April 24, the order will be executed by the Institute of Water Problems and Hydropower of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic in the period 2025 to 2030.
The Ministry of Finance was instructed to ensure the timely allocation of financial resources for the implementation of the state order for the study of the Chu and Talas river basins within the funds provided for the Institute for 2025 in the amount of 6 million 723 thousand 94 soms.
Every year, funds are allocated for the Institute of Water Problems and Hydropower to fulfill the order:
- In 2026, according to the objects of research of the Naryn River basin — 7 million 965 thousand soms.
- In 2027, according to the objects of research of the Issyk-Kul, Sary-Zhaz and Karkira river basins — 7 million 736.5 thousand soms.
- In 2028, according to the objects of study of the basins of the Tarim, Chatyr-Kul and Amu Darya rivers — 7 million 735 thousand soms.
- In 2029, according to the objects of study of the Syrdarya river basins — the northern border of the Fergana Valley and Karadarya — 7 million 807 thousand soms.
- In 2030, according to the objects of study of the Syrdarya river basins — the southern border of the Fergana Valley and the Amu Darya — 7 million 821.2 thousand soms.
The Cabinet of Ministers instructed the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision, and the Ministry of Energy:
- To take measures to use the results of the project “Assessment of water and energy resources of unexplored river basins of the Kyrgyz Republic in the context of climate change” to develop recommendations on the optimal mode of operation of the cascade of Nizhne-Naryn HPPs and Kambar-Ata HPP-1 in the conditions of projected climatic changes.
