Orto-Tokoyskaya HPP: construction is on schedule

The construction of the Orto-Tokoy hydroelectric power station, the laying of which took place eleven months ago, is progressing according to the approved schedule. At the moment, approximately half of the total amount of construction work has been completed. The Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic reports that the completion of the project and the commissioning of the HPP are expected in the first half of 2026.

The projected capacity of the Orto-Tokoyskaya HPP will be 21 MW. The Chakan HPP OJSC is engaged in the implementation of this important energy facility in cooperation with the Chinese corporation China National Machinery Industry Corporation (CHMC). The total time allotted for the construction of the station is 24 months.

Over the past period, the builders have erected both temporary and permanent access roads to the facility. A full-fledged construction site has been set up, including warehouses for materials and equipment, as well as concrete nodes. Power supply to the construction site is provided. Significant progress has been made in the construction of the derivation tunnel: out of the planned 928 meters, 727 meters have already been drilled. The works on the construction of retaining walls of the discharge channel have been completed, which took 868 cubic meters of concrete. Also, the valves and three cones of suction pipes were installed. The access road to the water intake of the hydroelectric power station is fully ready.

Currently, specialists are carrying out reinforcement and formwork work in the premises intended for operational control of the station and placement of the switchgear RU-10 kV. In parallel, steel supports are being installed inside the derivation tunnel. All necessary permits for the construction of the substation PS-110/10 kV have already been received, and the preparatory stage of work has begun. At the same time, the process of coordination with the Mayor’s office of Balykchy of the issue of allotment of a land plot for the construction of an overhead power transmission line of 110 kV is continuing.

It is assumed that after commissioning, the Orto-Tokoyskaya HPP will be able to provide stable power supply to more than 14 thousand subscribers in the region. The initiative to build a hydroelectric power station was fixed by the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic dated July 30, 2021, and the contract with CHMC Corporation for the implementation of the project was signed on March 24, 2023.
