Orto-Tokoyskaya HPP: 60% of all works have been completed
The Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic Taalaibek Ibraev personally inspected the construction of the Orto-Tokoy hydroelectric power station, which is being built near the city of Balykchy. This facility is one of the key ones for strengthening the energy infrastructure of the Issyk-Kul region.
At the moment, the implementation of the ambitious project has reached 60% of the total planned work. The construction is carried out in strict accordance with the approved schedule, according to the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic. A significant block of preparatory and basic works has already been fully completed: both temporary and permanent access roads to the HPP facilities have been built, a construction site has been fully equipped, including warehouses for storing materials, as well as facilities for mortar-concrete units, compensator units and power supply systems for the construction site. 928 meters have been drilled in an important section of the derivation tunnel designed to supply water to turbines. In addition, the delivery and installation of the outlet channel valves was carried out, and three suction pipe cones were installed – one for each of the three future hydraulic units.
Currently, Chinese builders (construction is being carried out by China National Machinery Industry Corporation) are focused on reinforcement and formwork work in the premises of the future operational management of the HPP, on the installation site and in the switchgear RU-10 kV. The laborious process of installing steel supports inside the derivation tunnel continues. A significant advance was the receipt of all necessary permits for the construction of the substation PS-110/10 kV, and at the moment active preparations are underway for the start of construction work at this facility. In parallel, the process of coordination with the Mayor’s office of Balykchy of the issues of land allotment for the 110 kV high-voltage transmission line, which will connect the station with the general power system, continues.
During his visit, Taalaibek Ibrayev emphasized the critical importance of strict compliance with the established schedule of construction works. The Minister also paid close attention to the issues of ensuring safety in the performance of all construction operations, especially those related to the use of lifting equipment, emphasizing their paramount importance for the preservation of the life and health of workers.
The solemn ceremony of laying the capsule at the construction site of the Orto-Tokoyskaya HPP, the design installed capacity of which will be 21 MW, took place on June 29, 2024. A year after the actual start of the project, the completion of about 60% of the total volume of construction work indicates a clear adherence to the planned plans, the Ministry of Energy notes. The total planned construction period of the hydroelectric power plant is 24 months. It is expected that after the commissioning of the Orto-Tokoyskaya HPP, which is scheduled for the first half of 2026, the station will be able to provide reliable power supply for more than 14 thousand subscribers of the city of Balykchy and adjacent settlements.
