The construction of the Kara-Kul HPP is entering its final phase

The construction of a new Kara-Kul hydroelectric power station in the Toktogul district of the Jalal-Abad region of Kyrgyzstan is approaching its final stage – the project being implemented on the Kara-Suu River has already been completed by 80%, the Ministry of Energy of the republic reports.

To date, the main design of the station is already ready. The head water intake structure has been completely erected, which will direct water flows to the turbines. The power frame of the station building has been installed – columns, crane beams have been installed, and the laying of metal structures of the upper structure and roof has been completed. All large-scale excavation works, including site preparation and excavation, are also fully completed.

Now the builders have moved on to the final stage of installation work. A pressure pipeline is being actively assembled, through which pressurized water will flow to hydraulic units. In parallel, equipment is being installed at the substation and concreting of the discharge channel designed to discharge waste water back into the river. The installation of wall sandwich panels, which will provide thermal insulation of the building, and the installation of the remaining equipment sections are being completed.

The key elements of the future station are already in place. Embedded parts for hydro turbines No. 1 and No. 2 have been delivered to the construction site – this is the basis, the “heart” of the hydroelectric power station. For their subsequent installation, a bridge crane capable of moving multi-ton equipment units has already been fully installed and ready for operation.

After commissioning, which is scheduled for the end of 2025, the design capacity of the Kara-Kul HPP will be 18 MW. This capacity will generate about 110 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
