“Chakan HPP” is preparing the HPP of Kyrgyzstan for peak winter loads

The Chakan HPP Company is conducting a comprehensive program to prepare hydroelectric power plants for increased loads in the autumn-winter period. The main purpose of the planned works is to ensure uninterrupted and reliable power supply to consumers in the cold season, when the demand for electricity traditionally increases.

As part of this program, the power engineers have already completed the overhaul of key hydroelectric units at the Bystrovskaya HPP, HPP-6 and the Small HPP. For the timely detection and prevention of possible malfunctions, a thermal imaging inspection of the equipment at all stations was carried out, which made it possible to detect potentially problematic nodes by temperature deviations. In addition, specialists performed flaw detection – a kind of ultrasonic diagnostics of shafts and critical parts of units at the Bystrovskaya HPP, HPP-5, HPP-6 and Small HPP in order to exclude the presence of hidden metal defects.

Along with major repairs, the current scheduled repairs of the main and auxiliary equipment, including hydraulic units, power transformers and switchgears at all hydroelectric power plants included in the structure of Chakan HPP, were carried out.

Work on the modernization of the power system continues. Currently, modern vacuum circuit breakers are being replaced and installed at HPP-3, and specialists are changing the power transformer at HPP-2. All activities are carried out in strict accordance with the approved schedule, according to the Ministry of Energy of the Republic.

Experts hope that conducting a large-scale repair campaign and diagnostics will significantly improve the reliability of equipment operation and create the necessary conditions for stable operation of hydroelectric power plants during peak winter loads.
