Construction of the Orto-Tokoy hydroelectric power station, one of the projects aimed at solving the problem of electricity shortage in the country, continues in Kyrgyzstan. The planned capacity of the new HPP will be 21 megawatts.

According to JSC “Chakan HPP”, currently the construction work has been completed by 68%. The main efforts are focused on the construction of the main building of the station, which will house the engine room with hydraulic units, control room and auxiliary equipment. This is where the conversion of water energy into electricity will take place. The work is carried out in accordance with the approved schedule.

In parallel with the construction of the main building, specialists are installing spiral chambers of hydraulic units and concreting the water intake shaft. Reinforcement and formwork works are being carried out inside the operational control rooms and the switchgear. The installation of steel supports and concreting in the tunnel is also carried out.

To date, a number of key stages have already been completed at the facility. Permanent and temporary access roads have been laid, a town for builders and warehouses for storing materials have been organized. Three suction pipe cones have been installed for each hydraulic unit, and a bridge crane with a lifting capacity of up to 50 tons has also been installed. The tunnel with a length of 928 meters has been completely completed and the road to the water intake has been built.

It is expected that the launch of the station will improve the reliability of the republic’s energy supply and provide additional electricity generation. Completion of all construction works at the Orto-Tokoyskaya HPP is scheduled for the first half of 2026.
