Kazakhstan is ready to purchase electricity from the Rogun HPP
The Ministers of Energy of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, Yerlan Akkenzhenov and Daler Juma Shofakir, held talks in Astana. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the international forum Kazakhstan Energy Week – 2025, at which the Tajik side was present as a participant. The central topic of discussion was cooperation in the field of electric power industry. The Kazakh side confirmed its readiness to sign an intergovernmental agreement on the supply of electricity from the Rogun HPP. This step is a development of the agreements previously recorded in the memorandum signed in 2023.
According to the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, this agreement is considered as a comprehensive tool for solving several strategic tasks. “We consider this agreement as a comprehensive instrument that will balance the energy system, support agriculture and strengthen food security,” Yerlan Akkenzhenov said.
In addition, the parties paid attention to the issues of synchronization of the power systems of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. To coordinate the technical modes of electricity transit, the Kazakh operator KEGOC will continue to work together with the national energy companies of Tajikistan. Issues of humanitarian support were also discussed during the meeting. It is expected that the agreements reached will give a new impetus to the development of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
