New investment project in Uzbekistan: A 200 MW HPP worth $500 million

The Andijan region of Uzbekistan and the Chinese company Sichuan Power Transmission & Transformation Construction have agreed to implement a major investment project in the field of hydropower. The total cost of the project is estimated at $ 500 million.

The corresponding agreement was reached during the meeting of the management of the Chinese company with the khokim of the Andijan region, which took place in Hunan province as part of the working visit of the Uzbek delegation to China. The project includes the construction of a new hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 200 megawatts, as well as the modernization of existing electrical substations in the region.

The cooperation is aimed at developing the energy potential of the Andijan region, the press service of the khokimiyat reports. The implementation of the project will make it possible to introduce advanced technologies, expand the use of renewable energy sources and strengthen the energy security of the region by updating networks and increasing environmental sustainability.

According to the Gidropost publication, the Chinese company Sichuan Power Transmission & Transformation Construction has extensive and relevant experience related to the construction of hydroelectric power stations, however, their main specialization is not the construction of dams themselves, but the creation of the entire electrical infrastructure for the output of power from hydroelectric power stations. The company has considerable experience abroad (Ethiopia, Pakistan, Brazil and other countries), where they have built power lines and substations, often for projects related to hydropower plants, helping to integrate new power plants (including hydro) into national power grids.
