Tajikistan and IDB discussed financing of the Rogun Dam project
Representatives of Tajikistan and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) discussed key development projects in the country. The meeting of the First Deputy Minister of Finance of Tajikistan Yusuf Majidi and the Vice President for Operations of the IDB Group Rami Ahmed was devoted to the financing of strategic initiatives, the focus of which was the Rogun hydroelectric power station.

The parties reviewed the current state of bilateral cooperation and confirmed their intention to expand the partnership. Special attention was paid to the strategic importance of the Rogun Dam for strengthening Tajikistan’s energy security and achieving sustainable development goals. The launch of the station at full capacity, according to the Tajik side, will double the electricity generation in the country and establish Tajikistan as a key player in the regional energy market.
The Rogun Dam project provides for the construction of the world’s tallest rock-fill dam with a height of 335 meters. A hydraulic engineering structure is being built on the Vakhsh River in the Pamir mountain system in Central Asia. As part of the project, it is planned to relocate about 50 thousand local residents from the flood zone of the future reservoir.
