The State Development Bank of Kyrgyzstan will provide financing for the Kulanak HPP project

The State Development Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic has signed an agreement on financing the construction of the Kulanak hydroelectric power station. A new energy facility is being built in the Naryn region, in the village of Kulanak on the Naryn River. The design capacity of the new HPP will be 100 MW, and the average annual electricity generation is expected to reach 435 million kWh.

According to the press service of the state Bank, the implementation of the Kulanak HPP construction project is aimed at strengthening Kyrgyzstan’s position in the regional energy market. The launch of its own generation will help reduce the dependence of the sector and the national economy on price volatility in foreign fuel markets, and will also ensure an increase in tax revenues to both local and national budgets.

The State Development Bank of Kyrgyzstan also emphasizes that an important component of the project is the social and agrarian effect. The operation of the Kulanak HPP will create up to 100 permanent jobs in the region. In addition, the new hydroelectric power plant will increase the area of irrigated land in the Kulanak valley, which will create conditions for the development of agriculture in this area.
