Hydro or confiscation: land will be seized from unhurried investors in Kyrgyzstan

The Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic withdraws allocated land from those who received it for the construction of mini-hydroelectric power stations, but did not do so. This was announced at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament of Kyrgyzstan) by the Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic Taalaibek Ibraev.

According to him, investors should prepare a feasibility study of the project within three months after receiving the land plot, develop it within six months and start construction within nine months. The minister did not say a word about the need for an environmental assessment of the HPP project.

Taalaibek Ibrayev also noted that the construction period of a mini-HPP cannot exceed three years. If the investor does not meet these deadlines, the land will be withdrawn.
