By the end of the year, 15 small hydropower plants will be built in Kyrgyzstan
It is planned to build 15 more small hydroelectric power plants in Kyrgyzstan in 2024, the country’s President Sadyr Japarov said, speaking at the high-level segment of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku on November 12.
Japarov stressed that Kyrgyzstan is actively implementing projects in the field of renewable energy sources to improve environmental sustainability. In this context, he noted the beginning of the implementation, together with neighboring countries, of a project to build one of the largest hydroelectric power stations in the region, the Kambar-Ata HPP-1.
The President also said that in 2023, 10 small hydropower plants were commissioned in Kyrgyzstan. In addition to the construction of 15 small hydroelectric power plants in 2024, the implementation of projects for the construction of solar power plants with a total capacity of more than 400 megawatts has begun.
In addition, in the context of climate change and the need for careful use of water resources, Kyrgyzstan has taken the initiative to create a Regional center in Bishkek for the introduction of energy-efficient and resource-saving technologies, the implementation of which will require the support of international partners, Japarov added.
