A reservoir will be built in Zhambyl region and canals will be repaired

The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, within the framework of cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank, plans to build a new reservoir in the Zhambyl region. It is also planned to repair 76 irrigation canals and one operating reservoir.

Of these, there are 18 channels in Baizak district, 1 channel in Talas district, 11 channels in Sarysu district, 1 channel in Merken district, 45 channels in Shusky district. The Karakoniz reservoir will be reconstructed in the Kordai district. The Akmola reservoir will be built in the Bayzak district.

Reconstruction and construction of reservoirs will improve the supply of water to 9300 hectares of land, and the repair of 76 irrigation canals will improve the water supply of 24.7 thousand hectares of acreage in the region, the ministry said.

“In addition, this year it is planned to repair sections of seven canals with a length of 67 km in the region. Last year, repairs were carried out on 69 km of canals. This will improve the supply of irrigation water to 13 thousand hectares of acreage,” said Kudaibergen Korganbayev, Director of the Department for the Development of Water Facilities of the Ministry of Water Resources of Kazakhstan.
