A Chinese contractor is building a hydroelectric power station at the Orto-Tokoy reservoir

In Kyrgyzstan, at the Orto-Tokoy reservoir, the construction of a new hydroelectric power station is in full swing. The press service of the Chakan HPP company, which owns the future HPP, reports that the installed capacity of the station will reach 21 megawatts, and the average annual electricity generation will be 75 million kilowatt-hours.

To ensure work at the facility, a temporary town has been erected, where workers and builders live, and a concrete plant has been built. Currently, construction and installation works are actively underway, in particular, pouring concrete of the retaining wall of the discharge channel. In addition, it is reported that specialists have completed work to strengthen the coastline of the Chu River. As of March 10, 460 meters have been passed in the tunnel where drilling operations are being carried out. The road is also being laid on the upper ridge of the reservoir.

The hydroelectric power station construction project was approved by the Government of Kyrgyzstan on July 30, 2021. On March 24, 2023, Chakan HPP signed a contract with the Chinese company China National Machinery Industry Corporation (CNMC) for the construction of a HPP. Completion of construction and commissioning of the HPP are scheduled for the first half of 2026.
