Five small hydroelectric power plants will be built in Kyrgyzstan this year

Five small hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 64 MW are planned to be commissioned in Kyrgyzstan in 2025. This was announced by the Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic Taalaibek Ibraev in an interview with the Kabar news agency.

According to the minister, we are talking about projects for which all the necessary documents have already been received and construction work has begun. He also added that interest in small hydropower remains high — many entrepreneurs are at the stage of preparing feasibility studies, project development and negotiations with banks on financing issues.

Recall that according to the Ministry of Energy, in 2024, eight small hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 49 MW were commissioned in Kyrgyzstan.

Earlier, the minister stated that 90% of small hydropower plants in Kyrgyzstan are built at the expense of local investors.
