The capital of the Abu Dhabi Development Fund is proposed to be used at the Rogun Dam

At a meeting in the UAE, the Chairman of the State Committee for Investment and State Property Management of Tajikistan, Sulton Rahimzoda, discussed with the Director General of the Abu Dhabi Development Fund, Muhammad Saif al Suwaidi, the possibility of attracting investments to complete the construction of the Rogun Dam. Rahimzoda presented the country’s energy potential, emphasizing the importance of “green” energy, and called on the fund to invest in this project and other infrastructure initiatives.

Al Suwaidi noted the readiness of the Abu Dhabi Development Fund to consider investments in priority sectors of Tajikistan, including energy, emphasizing the fund’s rich experience in financing such projects. He expressed his intention to expand cooperation with Tajikistan.

The Rogun Dam, which is being built on the Vakhsh River, will become the largest hydroelectric power station in Central Asia with a capacity of 3,600 MW. It will meet the country’s domestic electricity needs and create opportunities for export to neighboring countries. However, the implementation of the project raises concerns of environmentalists because of the possible impact on the ecosystem and the environment.

Environmentalists emphasize the need for a comprehensive environmental assessment of the project in order to minimize its impact on nature. Particular attention should be paid to the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainability of the region’s ecosystems.
