Five new micro-HPPs launched in Karakalpakstan

In the Republic of Karakalpakstan, five new microhydroelectric power plants were launched, built at the expense of Uzbekhydroenergo’s own funds. The projects were implemented as part of the execution of the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On additional measures to develop a network of microhydroelectric power plants in the regions of the republic” dated March 28, 2025. The new energy facilities are designed to provide electricity and contribute to the socio-economic development of local communities, the press service of the enterprise reports.

Three micro-hydroelectric power stations were put into operation in the Nukus district. One of the stations with a capacity of 15 kW, located on the Bozatov channel on the territory of the Makhalla gathering of citizens “Akterek”, will generate about 85 thousand kWh of electricity per year for the needs of the local population. Two more micro-hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 30 kW have been launched on the Turtkul channel in Kyzyl Uy aul. Their total annual output is estimated at 175 thousand kWh.

Two micro-hydroelectric power stations have started operating at the Suenli Canal spillway in Samankul village in Khojeyli district. The capacity of each of them is 50 kW, and the total average annual electricity generation under the project will reach 580 thousand kWh. The launch ceremonies were attended by the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan F. Ermanov and other officials.

An important feature of the project is a high level of localization. All key units and necessary equipment for hydraulic structures are manufactured at the UzHydroPower plant, part of the structure of Uzbekhydroenergo JSC.

All launched micro-hydroelectric power plants have been transferred to the balance of local mahallas. The funds received from the sale of generated electricity will be directly directed to financing projects for the socio-economic development of these territories, improving infrastructure and improving the well-being of residents.

The implementation of these projects also serves as a good example for the private sector, the press service said. The state invites entrepreneurs interested in the development of “green” energy to participate in the construction of new micro-HPPs on the terms of public-private partnership, creating new business opportunities and strengthening the energy independence of the regions.
