Uzbekistan Explores Hydropower Projects with Turkish Firm Limak

On January 29, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Jamshid Kuchkarov, held a working meeting with Sezai Bacaksız, founder of the Turkish holding company Limak. The discussion focused on expanding bilateral cooperation and implementing large-scale investment projects in Uzbekistan.

The talks centered on joint initiatives, with a particular emphasis on developing the nation’s hydropower sector through public–private partnership mechanisms. The parties reviewed the potential for jointly preparing the necessary documentation to launch new projects. Attracting private capital and foreign expertise for the construction of hydraulic facilities is viewed as an effective method for modernizing the country’s energy system.

Limak has significant experience in this field, having successfully built ten hydroelectric power plants in Turkey. Both sides agreed that the company’s established practices and technological solutions could be effectively adapted for use in Uzbekistan, which would enhance the reliability and efficiency of local hydropower generation.

The holding company’s global performance metrics were also presented during the meeting. Limak’s annual profit reaches USD 4.1 billion, and it is the leading construction firm in Turkey. The company also ranks among the top 20 largest construction companies worldwide.

Following the negotiations, both parties affirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation. A decision was made to continue practical consultations on specific projects, which is intended to lay the groundwork for a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership in the hydropower industry.
