Uzbekistan Explores Hydropower Partnership with Turkish Firm

Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Jamshid Kuchkarov, held a working meeting on January 29 with Sezai Bacaksiz, the founder of the Turkish holding company Limak. The discussion focused on expanding bilateral cooperation and implementing large-scale investment projects within Uzbekistan.
A primary focus of the meeting was the development of hydropower through public–private partnership models. The parties discussed the joint preparation of the necessary documentation to launch new projects. Attracting private capital and foreign expertise for the construction of hydropower facilities is viewed as an effective method for modernizing the country’s energy system.
Limak representatives presented their experience in the sector, which includes the construction of ten hydroelectric power plants in Turkey. It was suggested that the company’s expertise and technological solutions could be adapted for use in Uzbekistan to enhance the reliability and efficiency of its hydropower generation.
The company’s global business metrics were also presented, including an annual profit of USD 4.1 billion. Limak is a leading company in Turkey’s construction sector and ranks among the top–20 largest construction firms worldwide, confirming its financial and operational capacity.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to deepen cooperation. The parties agreed to continue practical consultations on specific projects to establish a foundation for a long-term partnership in the hydropower industry.
