Tajikistan Rogun Dam Crest Reaches 1,155-Meter Mark Ahead of Schedule

Construction of the Rogun Hydropower Plant (HPP) in Tajikistan has advanced ahead of schedule, with the dam crest reaching an elevation of 1,155 meters above sea level. This phase was initially projected for completion at the end of 2026. The acceleration of the timeline enables the start of reservoir filling to the 1,140–meter level, ensuring the water pressure required for the consistent operation of the plant’s hydroelectric units.

President Emomali Rahmon inspected the progress of the site, including the exit zone of the ninth transport tunnel on the Rogun side, located at an altitude of 1,300 meters. Engineering and construction activities at the site are currently being carried out around the clock. The workforce consists of several thousand employees operating in shifts, supported by more than 160 units of heavy equipment engaged on a daily basis.

The Rogun HPP – one of the most significant infrastructure developments in Central Asia – is situated on the Vakhsh River. The engineering design involves the construction of a rock-fill dam that is planned to reach a final height of 335 meters. Upon completion, the structure will be the tallest embankment dam in the world.
