Tajikistan and AIIB sign $270 million agreement for Rogun Dam
On December 20, Beijing hosted the signing ceremony of a financial agreement between Tajikistan and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in the amount of $270 million (1.92 billion yuan). The funds will be used to implement the first stage of the Rogun Dam development program. This was reported by the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan. The document was signed by the Minister of Finance of Tajikistan Fayziddin Kakhhorzoda and Vice-President of the AIIB Konstantin Limitovsky.
The total amount of funding allocated to the AIIB for the construction of the Rogun Dam is $ 500 million, which will be provided in two stages under separate agreements. The aim of the project is to strengthen Tajikistan’s energy independence and promote sustainable economic development of the country. The financing will be directed to the implementation of key lots for the construction of the Rogun Dam, as well as the construction and reconstruction of 55 kilometers of roads, including bridges that will connect individual villages near the Dam.
The Rogun Dam is considered a strategically important project for Tajikistan, which, according to the developers, will increase the volume of electricity generation, strengthen the country’s export potential and improve the transport infrastructure of the region.
