The water level in the reservoir of the Nurek Dam continues to fall
In the reservoir of the Nurek hydroelectric power station, which is a key object of the energy system of Tajikistan, a continuing decrease in the water level is recorded. As the press secretary of the Barki Tojik energy holding Kurbon Akhmadzoda told Sputnik Tajikistan, the dynamics of water resources consumption remains the subject of close attention of specialists, despite some changes in weather conditions.

The representative of the company provided technical data characterizing the current situation at the waterworks. The stable level of filling of the reservoir is at around 910 meters above sea level, while the critical value is 857 meters. Thus, the operational reserve that can be used to generate electricity is 53 meters. According to Akhmadzoda, at the moment about seven meters have already been consumed from this reserve volume.
At the same time, the energy holding also noted positive trends related to meteorological conditions. Intense atmospheric precipitation contributed to some improvement in the hydrological situation in the Vakhsh riverbed. The representative of Barka Tojik stressed that heavy rains directly affect the filling capacity of the waterway, due to which the inflow of water into the reservoir increased by 30-40 cubic meters, which partially mitigates the situation.
Earlier, strict restrictions on the supply of electricity to consumers were introduced in the republic. The authorities of the country justified the need for a limit precisely by the critical drop in the water level in the reservoir of the Nurek Dam. Experts point out that this year, especially in the autumn period, a complex of natural factors had a serious impact on electricity generation. Among them, experts call global climate change, seasonal precipitation deficit and a general reduction in river flow in the region.
Against the background of the current situation, energy companies have appealed to the local population with an urgent appeal to save resources. Residents were asked to rationally use household electrical appliances and control the load on the network, not exceeding consumption of more than 4 kW at a time. These measures are designed to stabilize the operation of the power system in the conditions of the observed shortage of water reserves.
