Arab funds have confirmed their readiness to finance the Rogun Dam

Negotiations on attracting investments in key infrastructure projects of Tajikistan were held in the capital of Saudi Arabia. The meeting was held in Riyadh as part of a conference on the development of finance. The main attention during the discussion was paid to the issues of financing the construction of the Rogun hydroelectric power station, as well as the development of the social sphere of the republic.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan, the format of the event involved holding a round table with the participation of representatives of the largest donor organizations in the region. The discussion was attended by senior officials of the Islamic Development Bank, the Qatar Development Fund, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, the Saudi Development Fund, the OPEC Fund for International Development and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.

The head of the Tajik Financial department, Fayziddin Sattor Kahhorzoda, familiarized the audience in detail with the current status of the project. The Minister provided information on the progress of construction work at the facilities of the Rogun Dam and explained the mechanisms of participation of international investors in the implementation of this initiative. For clarity, the participants of the meeting were shown a video report reflecting the scale and pace of construction of the waterworks.

Given the strategic importance of the Rogun Dam for the energy security of Central Asia, the Tajik side invited financial institutions to consider the possibility of further support for the project. Representatives of the Arab development funds present expressed their principled readiness to continue financing this important regional facility.

A separate bilateral meeting between Fayziddin Sattor Kahhorzoda and Abdullah Al-Mansouri, Regional Director of the Abu Dhabi Development Fund for Asia, was also held within the framework of the event. During the conversation, the representative of the fund confirmed the intention of the organization to participate in financing the continuation of the construction of the Rogun Dam. The parties agreed that the specific parameters of cooperation and investment volumes will be determined in the coming months during additional consultations.
