Up to 70% of the electricity of the Rogun Dam is exported to neighboring countries
The Rogun hydroelectric power station in Tajikistan has reached 7.5 billion kWh of electricity generated since commissioning. This was announced by the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Daler Juma at the 23rd Ministerial Conference of the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program, which was held in Astana.
The Minister stressed that NGO Rogun, one of the largest hydroelectric power plants in the region, plays an important role in ensuring Tajikistan’s energy security. He noted that the existing units of the station have already generated a significant amount of electricity, of which up to 70% is exported to neighboring countries, covering the growing demand for energy in Central Asia.
During the plenary session of the conference, Daler Juma discussed the tasks of decarbonization and strengthening regional energy security. The participants noted that the increase in the share of renewable energy sources, including hydropower, contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions and has a positive impact on the environment, which is of particular importance against the background of global climate change.
