Kyrgyzstan: it is difficult for investors to prepare feasibility studies for small and medium-sized HPPs

In Kyrgyzstan, companies are experiencing difficulties in preparing a feasibility study for the construction of small and medium-sized hydropower plants, the Hungarian-Kyrgyz Development Fund said.: 

Urmat Kydyrganov, manager of the Fund’s Analytics and Finance service, told about the work of the Hungarian-Kyrgyz Development Fund on the radio.

Currently, the Hungarian-Kyrgyz Fund is working in 17 areas. Energy is one of the priority sectors to support.

Earlier, the National Agency for Investments of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that an energy project with the participation of the Hungarian side is under consideration.

According to Kydyrganov, Hungary has a good enough market for the production of renewable energy technologies.

“They have a large number of enterprises specifically for the production of turbines, there are wind energy enterprises,” he said.

According to the head of the analytics and finance service of the Hungarian-Kyrgyz Development Fund, there are many people who want to build small and medium-sized hydropower plants in Kyrgyzstan. However, companies are still experiencing difficulties in preparing a feasibility study (feasibility study) for such projects.

“According to our terms of lending, we cannot allocate money for the preparation of feasibility studies,” Kydyrganov said.
