Russia, Afghanistan in Talks on Small Hydropower Projects

Russian companies have initiated discussions with Afghan authorities to develop energy infrastructure, focusing on the potential construction of small hydroelectric power stations. Representatives from the firms are in Kabul for a series of negotiations with relevant government departments, according to Afghanistan’s ambassador to the Russian Federation, Gul Hasan.

In his first interview in the role, the ambassador confirmed Russia’s specific interest in the country’s electricity generation sector, noting that specialists from some companies have already visited Afghanistan for meetings. The active dialogue reflects a mutual interest in modernizing the nation’s energy infrastructure, with an expectation that practical steps towards project implementation will be taken soon.
