Kyrgyzstan Launches 4.6 MW Sary-Tash Small Hydropower Plant

The Sary-Tash small hydropower plant has reached its technical launch phase in the Bazar-Korgon district of Kyrgyzstan’s Jalal-Abad region. Developed by ElInvest Group, the facility was constructed with financial support from the Russian–Kyrgyz Development Fund (RKDF). This project represents the seventeenth small-scale hydroelectric initiative financed by the organization to date.

The total investment for the project amounted to 5.6 million dollars, with the RKDF providing a 3.8 million dollar credit line. The hydropower plant has an installed capacity of 4.6 MW and utilizes a 960-meter derivation channel. The site’s topography provides a static water head of 122.3 meters – a height that allows the turbines to generate the required power volumes without the necessity of constructing large-scale dams.

Annual electricity generation at the Sary-Tash facility is projected to reach 19.6 million kWh. This output is expected to cover one-fifth of the total electricity demand in the Bazar-Korgon district. The project also addresses local infrastructure requirements by providing a reliable power supply to the mountain village of Jaz-Kechuu, which consists of 72 households.
